first paid gig & rogan

so i finally did my first paid gig on friday and i fuckin loved everything about it! don't get me wrong, the venue sucked (round tables, gigantic columns with excellent comedian blocking ability, and chairs with headrests high enough for Marge Simpson's afro). Also, the crowd was an older one. Did they even know what the hell i was talking about? But all that aside; I GOT PAID! I can't believe it. They gave me money for talking about shit that I thought up and turned into a joke. That's the coolest freakin thing in the world! I love comedy. WOW! and don't think that i don't know i sound like a teenage boy who just lost his virginity. I'm just excited. And when you're this excited you can't help but act gay.

Speaking of gay, I saw some shit that totally pissed me off. That's when comics steal shit from other comics. I was watchin a lot of that youtube stuff of Joe Rogan Vs. Carlos Mencia and everyone seems to think Mencia is a thief. Well i'm not a part of that specific incident but i think if a comic steals that the worst thing you can do in comedy.
i saw that happen at my own, home club during the open mic. some guy got up and told a bunch of jokes he saw on youtube or something. i recognized bits from geniuses like arj barker and nick dipalo (spelling?) and then he told some of his jokes. i can tell when he did his jokes because nobody laughed. there was a huge difference because the stolen shit was written perfectly (by the comic who it belongs to) and the other shit didn't sound very clever. now the guyadmitted that it wasn't his stuff and that he did it because he just wanted to get onstage without being to nervous. but isn't that something that every comedian is supossed to go through, that horrible feeling of being totally unfunny? Not only that, but this guy then put his stuff up on youtube. unless the title of the clip is "watch me perform other people's jokes" then i don't think that's cool. when i host the open mic i'm gonna make it a rule you gotta do your own shit. i mean the whole point of comedy is to come up with creative and original shit. am i wrong on that one?
